Lisanne Fabriek
Trade and Marketing Manager cut flowers

With the Gerbera team together we roll out our sales and marketing strategy. This really is a process which every time becomes more fun. Our breeding pipeline is full of surprisingly strong and colourful Gerberas in all kind of flower types. Therefore we see lots of opportunities introducing the market to our new top performers.

I am proud of..

I am proud of that, more than ever, we become are stronger player in the market if you look at the most requested traits. Sustainable and cost efficient growing programs are needed to continue as the flower industry in general and on our level to continue to fill up the shelfs with the most colourful Gerberas.

“A moving industry”

My biggest challenge is; concerning expansion and efficiency improvements, how do manage to maintain a shelf with a wide diversity of flowers and plants. If less active players need bigger amounts of flowers the opportunities for niche varieties are limited. We know the required characteristics of flowers and we understand how consumers and trends are moving. Therefore my wish is that we still continue to develop and introduce flowers for every segment in which can be produced in the requested amounts.

My favourite Gerbera

Gerbera Pirlo+. An example of a variety which I find that deserves a bigger chance if we would ask the consumers if they are likely to buy it.

Gareth Evans
Gerbera Breeder

I am very privileged to have a career in what as a young boy was my hobby. Bringing the best out of people and functioning in a good team are important to me. Values I cultivated in twenty five years on the Rugby field.

“A new way of growing Gerberas”

The current energy crisis has brought widespread changes affecting how Gerberas are produced and their quality. This and the development of mechanical harvesting could change the grower’s future requirements on varieties.

Gerbera is a very responsive crop, Temperature, light and day length can all influence it, giving regional differences in how plants grow. We use reference varieties to give us insight into how the climate or season is affecting growth. Since these are commonly leading varieties we have our goals always in front of us in focus.

My favourite Gerbera

My Favourite Germini is Picture Perfect for it’s unique colour and quality.

Natascha Faessen
Product Manager Calla lily, Carnation and Gerbera

As Global Product Manager for Gerbera, I am responsible for the Global Crop Strategy and the portfolio management. From product innovation to global value chain management, the focus is on providing you with the best Gerbera’s of the future.

I’m proud of..

I am proud that as a team, we have improved our trials and are introducing strong new genetics. It is really a team effort, where we all strive to provide the best performing gerbera’s to our customers.

“Gerbera breeding is topsport”

Breeding and selecting those varieties, that is what we call top sport. It requires determination, strong focus and training to reach the next level. Every round of crossings and selections, we improve our pipeline. The result? New Gerbera toppers, our top athletes, which are fully equipped to have a winning performance in the greenhouse of our customers. Whether you are located in a hot and humid, or cold and dry climate, or any other, we have gerbera toppers for you.

My favourite Gerbera

Niels Pennings
Sales Manager Gerbera and Rose

Together with Eric Kuiper we are responsible for the sales of our beautiful Gerbera range. Providing growers with the correct information about varieties in order to create the best assortment together. Naturally, sustainability and labor are important topics in our product group at the moment. However, the most important development that I see and where I want to focus on is the place of the gerbera in the bouquet. How do we keep this place and how do we make ourselves indispensable. With that goal I also will join the Coloured by Gerbera promotion collective in 2023.

I’m proud of..

The complete approach that we take with the team, from breeding to sales/marketing - we are all working on a goal to bring beautiful varieties to the market. Throughout the process, we try to involve all links in the process, from grower to supermarket. We all need each other.

“The most important flowers”

A bouquet without Gerberas is not a bouquet. The Gerbera is an indispensable flower in our total cut flower portfolio. In addition to Rose, Chrysanthemum and Carnation, a Gerbera included in many bouquets, which is important for us to play a role here with our pull-marketing strategy towards wholesalers and supermarkets.

My favourite Gerbera

My favourite Gerbera is Platini+ - the colour purple is so powerful, that makes it unique. Everything about this gerbera is right around that, from crop to vase life.

Reinoud Hagen
Managing Director Cut flowers and Cala Lilies

Together with the Gerbera team we have an important mission. Becoming a stronger partner in the Gerbera market. Within that mission we strive to create the perfect product-market combinations. The past years we’ve worked hard to select the right varieties and to focus on the most needed traits and specifications. When we look into our pipeline at the moment we have high expectations for the upcoming years.

I’m proud of..

The passion of the people involved in our team and the benefits which we see in Gerbera within the total product portfolio:

  • Innovative breeding program; investments in new traits
  • One-stop shopping; for wholesale and retail partners

My favourite Gerbera

My favourite Gerbera is Pires, first because of its high production and also because I like the most bright colours. That in my opinion is the biggest power of our Gerberas.

Meanwhile this name is used by all parties.

Erik Kuiper
Global Account Manager and Crop Specialist Gerbera

My role is mainly Sales in the Netherlands, Kenya and Canada. Within the team I am also responsible as a crop specialist, and I am involved in the breeding and selection team. This  combination is very cool to do.

“Reducing risks”

Growers can no longer afford to make mistakes, people are considering very critically whether to plant a (new) variety. These (new) varieties need to meet more and more requirements. It’s a challenge to be involved and the stage of breeding where we can challenge these varieties in the most realistic growing circumstances.

I am proud of..

I started working at Dümmen Orange almost six years ago and went through all facets, from grower to sales and advising on how to grow a gerbera. I got the opportunity to setting up local nursery locations which I found very nice to do. Certainly also the assortment we have developed I am very proud of. Most credits off course go to our breeder Gareth. But working with him (almost every day) has certainly contributed to this.

My favourite Gerbera

My favorite Germini is Cookies&Cream, a little different, no nonsense, not a high flyer but still stone good.
